Gospel Shirts---By John Davis
Before leaving for Brasil this year, Tim McAlpin gave me a bundle of "gospel T-shirts" to pass out while I was in Barra Mansa, Volta Redonda and Resende. On the back of the shirts was the gospel scripture from I Corinthians 15:3-4: Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures. He was buried and arose the third day, according to the scriptures. Tim's grandpa, Rev. W. W. McAlpin, affectionately known as Daddy Mac, used the scripture in his sermons and testimonies countless times. It became Tim's favorite scripture. So he had it printed on hundreds of good quality T-shirts and distributed them throughout Kentucky. But Tim never thought they would be worn on the streets of Brasil.
Two weeks into my 2011 Brasil trip, I began passing out the shirts to teachers for them to distribute to the many students I was speaking to. As soon as the students saw them, they all wanted one. So the teachers decided to raffle them off. The students picked numbers and the ones with the winning numbers got the shirts. The smiling faces of the students that won the shirts, and even the ones who didn't win them, were unforgettable. The only thing I can conclude is that, truly, God's Word is anointed, and so were the shirts that proclaimed His gospel. Before I left last year I brought shirts as well, and once I stood in line in a convenient store and a person had one on in front of me. I thought, the shirts Tim and Jay printed in Lexington Kentucky are sending the message of Christ into Brasil. That's truly a wonderful thing.
